Turning Knowledge Into Advantage
Ann assisted the training team to develop a clinically accurate work-flow based training program. The curriculum was developed for each role in the inpatient facility. It walked the end users step by step in how to utilize Epic to perform their unique job duties. The trainers were educated on the intricacies of the healthcare environment to better relate to the students in their classes. As each new hospital was brought on board, Ann did an assessment for any new roles and developed the new curriculum. The process took approximately six months to develop the core program and another month in advance of each new facility.
The program was successful because it took Epic’s basic training content and made it come alive for end users. Clinical users learn best when the curriculum is written in their language and put into a relatable context. As a nurse who has been through several go lives, Ann was able to pinpoint challenging workflows then develop educational materials that make sense to nurses. Go live issues were dramatically reduced because end users needed less support.
